What is this program for?
Games out there are awesome in all senses, but I realized that I wanted something different... a funny and non-stressful game at the same time, where the quality of the resources used in the game was secondary. Best games I have ever played were turn based games: role games and role-playing board games, so I decided to restore that spirit in a new generic game, where the user could let his imagination fly creating his own games. This way, “Game Interface” was born.
I’m the only developer of this program,
I’ve spent a lot of time and effort to make it. I know that a
lot of people will think this is a horrible game, ha ha... so if you
are searching for a game with stunning graphics and sound, or real
time, or very realistic, this game is not for you, don’t buy
it and don’t keep reading.
At the beginning it was a project just for my pleasure, it was great
for me to play at last the game I always wanted to. But I supposed that
some people around the world felt like me about this matter, then I
decided that I would make it public.
I hope you enjoy it.
Features
As the name suggests, “Game Interface” is just an interface to play turn based role games, just like classic role board games. That is to say, just with this program you can't make anything, you will need additional games/mods to be able to play. Some features:
- Script based.
- Flat boards (with Z levels), but 3D environment (OpenGL).
- Support for sounds and music.
- Support for importing MDX models.
- Support for importing team colours system used in MDX and WHM models.
- Sounds, music, models, textures... any resource is introduced by the user, the program itself is just a manager of these elements.
- Server/client platform.
- Possibility to play campaigns.
- The program doesn’t have a graphical interface (apart of the 3D engine itself), it is a classic windows interface.
- Artificial intelligence is not implemented yet, so just humans can play the game. Depending on the “success” of this program, I will make the AI or not.
Requirements
Requirements depends on the quality of the resources used in
your game, but there are options to decrease cpu and memory
conssumption. The basic requirements to run this program (not to run a
game) are:
- Video card supporting OpenGL 1.1
- Internet connection to play in multiplayer (unique available mode at this moment)
In my old PC (256MB RAM, 64MB Video RAM, 1.5GHz) the
program runs well, I can play my games without reducing the quality, so
I think that almost
any computer will be able to run the program without problems.
Disclaimer
Because of the nature of this project, I have to clarify some points.
This program uses its own formats for models, textures, sound/music, maps and campaigns. Extension names are extracted from the referenced name: MOD (MODel), TEX (TEXture), SND (SouND), MAP (MAP), CPG (CamPaiGn).
So they are just descriptive names, the same for “Game Interface” and “Map Builder”, I don’t pretend that they are trademarks. In fact, these program names are translated according to selected language.
Regarding support for...:
- MDX models and its team colour system
- WHM team colour system
- MP3 sounds and TGA textures
...they are all imported by “Map Builder”
(free application) and converted to my own formats: MOD, TEX and SND.
The comercial application “Game Interface” uses
these own formats.
I am not responsible for the resources used by the users in my program. I realize that many users don’t have skills for creating models, textures and sounds, so if they use resources with copyright, I can’t do anything about that... just to trust that they use free resources found in the net. That’s why I gave support for two big communities of modders, with lots of free resources available.
I have had many influences to build my program: pc games,
board games, but also a lot of common sense creating the
rules. I haven’t implemented any board game in particular,
I just inpired on them to create my particular vision of a generic
board game.
My intention is not to take profit of other people’s work,
but making real the idea of game I had for long time in my mind. For
this reason, I’ve seriously tried not violating any
copyright. If you feel that this is not so and feel injured in some
way, I’m open to discuss about it and to rectify the
problematic subjects in case I have to do it.
